An exhibition dedicated to the topic of books banned during communism was opened at the “House of Leaves” National Museum, where it will remain open for two weeks.

Carried out by the collaboration between the National Library and the General Directorate of State Archives in the framework of the “Month of Remembrance”, in addition to the exhibition of banned books, the exhibition shows the history of censorship in Albania through archival documents on the banning of the circulation of certain books, the deletion of the names of editors or translators, the suspension and ban of authors declared as enemies of the regime.

At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, the general director of Akiva, dr. Ardit Bido, director of the National Museum “House with Leaves”, Etleva Demollari.

This exhibition outlines the history of censorship in Albania through archival documents of ordinances on banning the circulation of publications, erasing the names of editors or translators, discarding books for cardboard, suspending and banning the publication of authors declared as enemies condemned by the regime of of the time, cleaning up the publications of enemy elements, Albanian and foreign authors, publications within the Republic of Albania but also abroad. In this exhibition, a special space is also occupied by publications printed in Kosovo by the publishing house “Rilindja”, which were served with special authorizations from academic institutions, such as Anton Pashku, Ali Prodrimja, etc.
